Tony Schwartz on The Kathleen Show

It would be safe to say that most radio hosts probably don’t read guests' books in their entirety before an interview.  But it was clear in Tony’s recent interview with Kathleen Slattery-Moschkau, host of The Kathleen Show, that she not only read The Way We’re Working Isn’t Working, but also deeply reflected on the book.

Here’s an excerpt from the show that we wanted to share:

Kathleen: There was a paragraph on page 25 that really stood out to me. You write, “Most of us work long hours and feel a relentless sense of urgency. We juggle multiple demands while feeling we are not devoting the most sufficient time to the most important tasks. We arrive home in the evenings with little energy left for our families. We spend too little time thinking strategically, and long term, too little time taking care of ourselves, and too little time simply enjoying our lives.”  And I read the paragraph, then I reread it, and I reread it, and I wanted to cry.

Tony: I cry hearing you read it! I was thinking as you were reading it, now that is depressing.

Kathleen: But it hits home because we are nodding our heads as we are reading it. We are like, “yes, finally someone is saying it. Someone is putting a name to it. Someone is identifying this.” There is a relief in that. That someone is actually talking about this out loud.

Tony: I couldn't agree more. As you said that, I honest to God had the feeling of, wow, that is depressing but it is reality. And you can't change what you don't notice.
